On February 19, Shanghai Electric Power Company, a subsidiary of State Grid, announced a milestone achievement: with the coordination of the Beijing Power Trading Center and after discussions with the Eastern Inner Mongolia Power Trading Center, the Shanghai Power Trading Center facilitated its first-ever cross-regional green power transaction. This transaction, set to take place in late February, involves the transfer of wind power from Eastern Inner Mongolia (part of the Northeast Power Grid) to Shanghai—marking the first time green power from the Northeast Grid has been transmitted to Shanghai.

The Shanghai Power Trading Center worked closely with the Eastern Inner Mongolia region to align Shanghai’s nighttime green power demand with available supply in the region. After conducting a thorough analysis of the complementary needs, the center quickly launched a pilot green power transaction, which saw approximately 18 million kilowatt-hours of power traded. This transaction innovatively opened a new green power delivery route—known as the “Lugu + Xitai” path—bypassing traditional transmission channels. As a result, not only was the first green power delivery from the Northeast Grid to Shanghai achieved, but the transaction also increased the supply of green electricity from external sources to Shanghai, helping to lower the overall cost of green power.

A representative from the Shanghai Power Trading Center stated that future efforts will focus on optimizing the coordination mechanisms between suppliers and recipients, while also promoting more frequent and regular green power transactions. These initiatives aim to create more convenient conditions for businesses seeking to purchase green electricity.
